India Cricket Team recently won the T20 World Cup 2024 and won the T20 Series against Sri Lanka. Even though the T20 series was a clean sweep (3-0), India was unable to mark a single win in the ODI Series against the same team.
Gautam Gambhir joined the Indian Men's Cricket Team as the Head coach for the Men's Cricket Team. In the First ODI, Sri Lanka gave India an equal fight, and in the end, the winning chances were shifted to making the match a tie.

Is toss a concern?
Sri Lankan skipper Charith Asalanka won the toss in all three ODIs and made the Indian team chase in every game of the ODI series.
Batting Collapse
Even though there was a great performance from the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, the Indian batters failed at every game stage. Rohit Sharma scored 157 runs with a 52.33 average lead the most runs chart of the series. Indian team collapsed to the spin attack of Sri Lanka and lost 27 wickets in a series to spin bowlers.
Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant completely failed in the batting order which brought a major difference in the result of the series.
Shivam Dube who was part of the T20 World Cup, managed his presence in the team with his skills in Batting and Bowling. Riyan Parag who debuted his ODI Career in the Final ODI, performed with his surprise bowling skills and was unable to mark his presence with bat.
Is Bowling a major concern?

The Sri Lankan Pitches were extremely favourable for the Spinners which Indian bowlers could not hold on to. Indian Team Played with top-class spinners Like Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar, who were still unable to take wickets on the Colombo pitches. The Indian team should look into this issue.
Mohammad Siraj, who was a destroyer of Sri Lankan dreams in Asia Cup 2023, unable to pick up wickets in this White Balls series. Arshadeep had a limited show for this series.
Sri Lanka Performance
The Sri Lankan Players were a step ahead of India and registered the series win 2-0. Charith Asalanka led the ODI team as the Debut Captain in International, he already faced a loss in the T20I Series and made his team win against the Indian Cricket Team.
Dunith Wellalage and Jaffrey Vandersay stole the show with their outstanding spin bowling which was boiling the ocean for an Indian spinner.
Pathum Nissanka and Avishka Fernando, the openers of the Sri Lanka team created an impact on the batting lineup, which resulted in the team crossing 200+ runs in every match. The master Dunith Wellalage powered the team with both bat and ball and became Player of the Tournament.
Rohit Sharma after the Series Loss: "There are a lot of areas we need to look at rather than the positives from this series because we need to be better prepared when we come across such conditions next time. These things happen, the series loss is not the end of the world, you will lose an odd series here and there but it is about how you come back after the loss."
