Previously, ECB has announced that there will be no professional cricket in England and Wales until at least July 1. The ECB board met last week to discuss the future of this new tournament and decided to launch it in 2021 instead of ruling it out. ECB also stated that playing the tournament behind closed doors would have contradicted its goal to attract a broader audience through a unique event for viewers and spectators.

Despite the postponement, a few issues still need resolution, including the decision on whether to pay the players who were supposed to participate in this year's competition and determining what to do about the squads for next year. ECB confirmed that they were still discussing these aspects.
