"In the wake of Zimbabwe's suspension by ICC, the BCCI invited Sri Lanka to participate in the three-match series," the BCCI said in a media release.

Zimbabwe were suspended by the ICC this July with immediate effect owing to government interference in the board's affairs, following which they were automatically ineligible to participate in any ICC event. However, they did play a T20 tri-series in Bangladesh recently, where they could not make the final.
