Test squad
: Virat Kohli (c), Mayank Agarwal, R Ashwin, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant (wk), Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Ishant Sharma, Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Hanuma Vihari, Kuldeep Yadav and Umesh Yadav

Samson last played for India in a T20 against Zimbabwe in 2015, which remains his only game for India so far, and has been picked alongside Rishabh Pant. MS Dhoni, meanwhile, remains missing from the squad with repeated doubts over his future with the national side. There is also a change in the fast bowling department with the return of Shardul Thakur, who came in place of Navdeep Saini and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Both squads also exclude all-rounder Hardik Pandya and rising fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who both had surgeries in the UK in October for their back injuries. Pandya's absence in particular influenced the selectors led by MSK Prasad to pick Dube. "You can see, earlier we had Hardik Pandya, then we also tried Vijay Shankar. All of us in unison, along with captain Rohit, felt that [given] the role that he has to deliver, Shivam Dube fits in much better. Because he really bats aggressively, extremely well. His performances in the India A series in West Indies and also against South Africa A in the ODIs were phenomenal. I think he has gone up by leaps and bounds with regards to his skillset and we were very, very much convinced about it", Prasad said.

As for the Test side, no changes were expected from the side that recently whitewashed both West Indies and South Africa. Prasad clarified that Nadeem was left out as Kuldeep had recovered from his injury and that they were all "convinced with Nadeem and with his performances in domestic cricket". He further said, "With the opportunities that we have given to Nadeem, he has really excelled. But the fact remains that we have to go back to Kuldeep, he is our premier bowler in the squad."

Bangladesh begin their tour of India with T20s in Delhi, Rajkot, and Nagpur starting November 3 before the two Tests in Indore and Kolkata, with the tour finishing on November 26.
