Agarwal's knock was his second double hundred in a month, the first one coming against South Africa in October, as India put up 493 for 6 against Bangladesh. Before that, Shami had grabbed 3 for 27 to help skittle the visitors out for 150, as India ended up with a massive lead of 343 in the first innings. When Bangladesh batted again, Shami then returned figures of 4 for 31 to lead India to a win by an innings and 130 runs, their third consecutive innings victory in Tests.

Shami's entry into the top ten means India now have three bowlers within that bracket, with Jasprit Bumrah sitting at fourth and Ravi Ashwin at seventh, while Agarwal's position at eleven places him just below his opening partner Rohit Sharma, with the other Indians in the top ten being Virat Kohli (two), Cheteshwar Pujara (four) and Ajinkya Rahane (five). All-rounder Ravi Jadeja also moved up to be the joint-35th batsman alongside Australia's Marnus Labuschagne.

The second and final Test of the series will take place at Kolkata from November 22, marking India's first hosting of a day-night Test.
